Throughout the catalogue you’ll see the following logos, here’s a brief overview of their meaning:


Whilst Welsh Pork does not have (PGI) status it meets the same stringent standards as Welsh Lamb and Beef and is fully traceable.


If any product is delivered to you without the logos above clearly displayed then the product cannot be advertised as Welsh. This is in accordance with section 4.8 of the Product Specification:


Welsh Beef as outlined under the Protected Food Name Scheme by the Department for Environmental, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).


The oval Celtic Pride Beef logo are registered to the Welsh Meat Company. The quality standard can be used on menus as a mark of product integrity that the beef and pork are reared to the highest standards.


Welsh Beef and Welsh Lamb Protected Geographical Indication (PGI)


As you may be aware Welsh Beef and Welsh Lamb were granted Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status by the European Commission in November 2002 and July 2003 respectively.

FREEDOM FOOD LOGO


The distinctive RSPCA Food logo is a registered certification mark, which belongs to Freedom Food Ltd.


Hybu Cig Cymru/Meat Promotion Wales have a legal responsibility to act as guardians of the PGI Welsh Beef and Welsh Lamb designations and in order to ensure that the integrity of the designations were protected implemented a verification scheme for abattoirs and cutting plants.


As an approved cutting plant for the processing of Welsh Beef and Lamb, Celtica Foods have a duty to maintain traceability from farm to fork. In accordance with the verification scheme it is important that we as a business comply with strict labelling requirements.


All Welsh Beef and Welsh Lamb products that you receive from Castell Howell Foods will clearly display the Welsh Beef logo alongside the PGI logo for all Welsh Beef products and the Welsh Lamb and PGI logos on Welsh Lamb products. These logos are displayed below.


The logo is widely recognised by consumers and provides them with the assurance that the product they are buying has been produced to higher welfare standards. The use of the RSPCA registered trademark in the logo indicates that the scheme is backed by the RSPCA, one of the most respected animal charities in the world.
